Dentures are created with comfort in mind. Dentures are a well-known tooth replacement option that has been in use for a very long time. With remarkable advances in technology, dentures have shifted and transformed into their designs to improve the look of your smile, and now offer artificial enhancements that perfectly mimic the look of natural teeth.

Dentures are artificial tooth replacements customized and crafted to replace a few teeth or even entire rows. They are detachable and adjustable by your dentist, so if discomfort is felt, they can be easily replaced with a better-fitting pair. For the best oral hygiene, a person should soak their dentures in a denture cleaning solution or plain water every night. Never let dentures lay out or they will dry up and fail.

When a person loses their teeth, their facial structure will slightly cave in and they begin to look much older than they are. Dentures can reinstate a person’s facial structure and return the lost youth to their face. Furthermore, gaps caused by missing teeth can become a haven for plaque buildup, which can lead to further tooth decay and gum disease.  Dentures remove this safe space for harmful debris and keep your mouth cleaner for longer.

Not all incomplete smiles are doomed to remain that way. In today’s dental industry, getting a tooth replacement has never been easier or wiser. Dental replacements such as dental bridges can mimic the natural look of teeth, last for decades, and restore your facial structure to its normal glory. Consider the following benefits that bridges can provide:

– A single dental bridge can last up to ten years, or even as long as a lifetime, but it should be repaired or replaced as necessary.
– Oftentimes, missing teeth can cause a person’s facial structure to sink in, which will make them look older and weaker than they truly are. Dental bridges can restore your facial structure and your natural look.
– Dental bridges prevent other teeth from moving out of position, which can often occur when there is not a full set of teeth in place.
– Dental bridges lower your risk for malocclusions and misalignments, which can often develop when there are teeth missing from a dental profile.
– Dental bridges can improve lost or impaired functions caused by missing teeth, such as chewing, eating, and speaking functions.

No matter which tooth replacement you choose, Dr. Joseph Szymczak and our team at MI Roots Family Dental will make sure that your smile is properly treated. While you should visit your dentist every six months for a routine cleaning, you should also care for your smile at home. You probably know that this means brushing and flossing every day. But do you ever wonder what else you can do to make your at-home oral hygiene as efficient as possible? If you do, you may want to consider adding mouthwash and a tongue scraper to your routine.

Did you know that when you brush you only clean approximately 25% of your mouth? This is one of the reasons mouthwash is so useful. Aside from fighting bad breath, mouthwash can reach different areas of your mouth, and provide a variety of benefits.

For example, some mouthwashes contain alcohol that that kills bacteria faster and more thoroughly than some mouthwashes, though it can cause a burning sensation. Other mouthwashes have fluoride to fight against cavities, and some are designed specifically for children.

Similarly, a tongue scraper is mostly useful for removing bacteria that can cause bad breath. While some people may clean their tongue with a toothbrush, many others find it uncomfortable. Tongue scrapers also come in different sizes because wide tongue scrapers may trigger gag reflex.

But please remember, if you have chronic bad breath, you may be dealing with gum disease and you may need help from a dentist.

Would you like to learn more about what you can do to care for your smile? Are you interested in learning more about how you can hold off gum disease? Would you like to schedule an appointment with our team? If so, please feel free to contact us today. We are excited to hear from you.
