Have you ever had a strange sound in your ears, such as a ringing, buzzing, hissing, chirping, or whistling? If you have, you’re far from alone, though the severity of the sound can vary. This sound may actually be the result of a condition commonly referred to as tinnitus. Many people notice the noise throughout the day, but especially when they try to sleep or are somewhere quiet.

About one in five people actually suffer from tinnitus. Many of these individuals may consider visiting their doctor to address a ringing in their ears, but would you be surprised to learn that our team can also help?  You see, tinnitus can have many causes. For example, you could be suffering from tinnitus if you have a circulatory system disorder, or have an ear injury or hearing loss. However, tinnitus can also be the result of TMJ.

If your tinnitus is caused by TMJ disorder, you may consider various treatments. For instance, our team may recommend using an anti-inflammatory to relieve TMJ pain. We may also recommend oral splints or mouth guards. These splints and mouthguards can also help you if you’re suffering from jaw pain. In extreme cases, we may also recommend a surgical approach.

If you have TMJD or are worried that you might, our dentist, Dr. Joseph Szymczak can help. If you’re interested in learning more about TMJD, tinnitus, or in scheduling an appointment with our team, we invite you to contact MI Roots Family Dental by calling 616-453-0002. We’ll be happy to address any questions you may have. We’re excited to hear from you soon.
